Believe it or not, the New Year is approaching quickly, and 2011 will be gone before you know it! Many friends and relatives will get together and celebrate 2012’s arrival at the stroke of midnight, and pictures will be taken, couples will kiss, and the champagne will be a-flowin’ at this magical transition in time.
Even though they’re (supposedly) notorious for keeping us out of the here and now, our iPhones can help us capture the moments we long to preserve – a picture of our loved ones and friends cheering at 2012’s arrival, a video of people singing “Auld Lang Syne,” and pictures of fireworks and other means of celebration. And with all the apps out there now, there are so many choices for us to help capture those perfect moments of celebration!
Connecting with one another and staying connected is super-important, especially during the holidays. Fortunately, there are tons of great apps out there that can help you stay connected with your friends and family! If you’re one of the millions of Facebook users, then the Facebook app (which is free, by the way!) is definitely for you! You can upload any pictures you take throughout the night and early morning, update your status, and be the first to wish all your friends and family a happy new year!
Speaking of wishing your family a happy new year, why not just call them? Everyone LOVES hearing from their siblings, parents, grandchildren, and others! And don’t just stop at calling them – use an app to have a video conversation with them, too! Skype is easy to use, and you can see the person you’ve called while you talk to them on your iPhone. Facetime, which is specifically for iPhone, is probably the easiest way to make video calls, though. If you happen to not have an iPhone, Tango is also a great way to make video calls across all phone platforms. We guarantee this videochat will make your family’s night!
Weather can be capricious in our nation and can change from balmy and sunny to tumultuous and cold in a matter of minutes. For example, while the weather is currently projected to be partly cloudy and 55 degrees Fahrenheit in the Metro St. Louis area, anything can change still (Remember last year? We were in the mid 70’s… and had some deadly tornadoes!)! For only 99 cents, you can download Weather+, one of the best weather apps out there. Not only does it tell you the weather for your location, listing the temperature, time, humidity, precipitation, and your 5-day forecast, but it also has some awesome imagery and design! You can also create and save customized weather pages for different locations you visit on a regular basis – now THAT’s bodacious!
Picture-taking is totally a MUST on New Year’s Eve, so why not download the free photo app Flickr? You can instantly upload your images from your phone onto the site, and you can also see shots from other friends who use the site! You can also use the 2011 App of the Year, Instagram, to give your photos an extra something to them before you upload them.
And what New Year’s Eve party is complete without watching the Times Square ball drop? No party, that’s what! Download the Official Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball app, and watch the ball drop wherever you might be! This is especially handy for those who don’t have cable or a television nearby.
New Year’s Eve is a fun night of celebration, but it can also turn tragic quickly. If you do drink, DO NOT DRIVE! Stay at a friend’s house or let a friend drive you home. Better yet, if you live in the city, you can use the app Taxi Magic to help you nab a cab home!
So which apps will YOU be using this year at New Year’s Eve? Tell us on our Facebook fan page or on our Twitter account! We hope you have a happy and BODACIOUS new year!
I saw you on the news. I was so proud to hear your product is made in St. Louis. I lived there for 40 years before recently moving to Texas. I had been debating for months on whether or not to get a new case for my new phone, and seeing your story helped me make my decision. I will be placing my order shortly. Keep up the great work and keep jobs in the USA!
Yes ma’am!! I wouldn’t have my products made ANYWHERE else besides here in the USA. STL is a wonderful city and i’ve only been to Texas once or twice. Hope you decide to get a case 🙂
